Headed up to the ridge mid morning on mixed day to scout out bivvy spots around An Dorus and test out winter bivvy kit. Headed up via W ridge of Sgurr Dearg path. Mixed visibility but whole ridge in the cloud and snow falling down to 400m. Moving over the more technical ground at base of sub summit led to crampons on around 700m and then worked way along the ridge towards the base of the Pinn; Snow was fresh and didn't assist movement that much so led to slow progress. We worked our way along the ridge skirting the hardest part of Ghreadaidh on the W side. Nipped up to apex of ridge to bag summit but retreated back to sheltered W side as wind was quite strong. Snow increasing.
Hit An Dorus and climbed up and out on unconsolidated snow with conditions leading to slow progress. Setup a bivvy at the shelters just above An Dorus beneath the ascent to Mhadaidh summit. Set up for the eve and weather got worse. Stayed a few hours but ended up bailing and going back down to via An Dorus descent in the dark. Back a the vans by 0300.
