Description

Start: New Radnor SO 21181 60835
Distance: 22.5k 1005metres ascent
Duration: 6.5 hours, brisk pace
Description: From the village, climb steeply N, taking the W side of forest, then 90 degrees E over Whimple 599m, steeply up then down then gently ascend NNW to Black Mixen. Last half KM through trackless peat bog. Rest good track. Then head of valley and W to Great Rhos. Summit itself in thick cloud. Again bog. To W, skirt heads of valleys. SW detour to Cwm Blithus rocks and river gorge - info says these are unusual untouched by folding etc - hidden seam top half a good scramble. Follow fence as handle S to 538m then E steeply down to re-join main track, taking bridle path through forest to waterfall detour. Then use Access Land (off path, but there are good sheep tracks here) to skirt around Fron Hill and return to New Radnor.
