After reading the guide book we decided to climb Triglav, the highest hill in Slovenia via the Tominskova Pot route. This is a popular route but does require a head for heights and knowledge of using via ferrata kit. The start of the climb was easy to find but very steep through the forest. After about 1 hour of climbing we started to reach the top of the tree line and where the via ferrata started. It looked easy but we geared up with helmet and harness just in case. The route was a very enjoyable easy scramble. We passed a few hikers with big bags, heading for the hut below the summit. Many people opt to do the route over 2 days to break the 2000m climb up. However, due to mine and my partners experience of walking a lot of ascent in one day we decided we would be able to do it all in one push. We had checked the weather and there were no afternoon storms forecast so we had the whole day to cover the route. We made it to the hut in under 3 hours and the route signpost suggested a time of 1 hour to get the summit. The final push to the summit was the most exciting. The clag rolled in as we weaved our way up a steep rocky ridge with cables and metal rods highlighting the route. The ridge narrowed but was simple to follow and it took a total of 33mins to reach the summit. We enjoyed a big sandwich before starting our descent. We re-traced our steps back to the hut and then descended via the Prag route. This was mostly scree with a few small sections of downclimbing. In total the route took 7.5hours.
