Learn to lead trad with James and Alex, both have done indoor leading as well as been on an outdoor learn to lead sport. The weather was very misty with lots of ground water on the rocks so I defered movement and technique considerations until the conditions were better. We started by looking at gear placement and I set them a task to place gear and rate it before heading up to rig the route for top route, but with a view to converting it to self-lining. After we'd calbirated gear we did a brief belay check before proceeding to ghost roping with gear placement and lead belaying before I top roped to check gear. We took a break for lunch and the weather had dried things out so we ook at some traversing, foot placements, and jamming. We then looked at building anchors on the ground, I demo'd and they then built one each. We then progressed to James leading the route and then Alex came up to observe and input to Jame's anchor building before returning and seconding the climb.
Area :
Peak District Grit: Stanage Edge
Simply the finest crag on grit with well over 1000 routes of all grades and styles. The most popular of climbing areas in the UK with a huge number of classic routes. We have split the area into the same divisions as used for UKC logbooks, namely Stanage Popular, Stanage Plantation and Stanage North. Bouldering activities should be entered into the 'Outdoor Bouldering' section of DLOG. Routes on other gritstone crags, such as Burbage North, should be added to the relevant Area as noted in the Area titles.
