What a shocker of a weather day, no way would we have done the day like this unless we had teamed up with another 2 blokes we met at the Youth hostel. It meant we had 2 cars and could walk from the north of Glenshee ski center, over the peaks to the east and down to car parked to the south.
The snow was soft and soaked below 600 meters then when we did get above this the wind picked up making it harder work to walk. The original plan of going to get all 4 peaks of the area went out of the window and just getting back to the car was the focus.
Area :
The Cairngorms
The Cairngorms are ‘a little piece of the arctic in Scotland’ according to the SMC Munros Guide and the area contains many of the tallest peaks in the East Highlands. Ben Macdui (1309m), Cairn Gorm (1244m) and Braeriach (1296) are probably three of the better known and the whole area is full of steep corries and high plateaux. Access to the mountains is typically from Aviemore or Braemar.
