Description

Two day hike over Y Mynydd Du as part of ML refresher training for one student.
Weather was perfect with heavy showers very poor visibility and strong to gale force winds. River crossing at proved problematic following very heavy rain which gave great opportunity for dynamic risk assessment and sound decision making.
Route started at Gyntawe and followed a route below Fan Hir. Overnight camp at Llyn Y Fan Fawr. Low level walk and nav. practice to the emergency shelter below Llyn y Fan Fach. Then a climb up to Bannau Sir Gaer followed by more nav. practice up high and then finding a safe place to cross Afon Twrch and then back to Glyntawe.

Area : Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) National Park

Bannau Brycheiniog (the Brecon Beacons) is a mountain range in South Wales. In a narrow sense, the name refers to the range of Old Red Sandstone peaks popular with walkers which lie to the south of Brecon. Sometimes referred to as "the central Beacons" they include South Wales' highest mountain, Pen y Fan. The range forms the central section of the Brecon Beacons National Park (Parc Cenedlaethol Bannau Brycheiniog), a designation which also encompasses ranges both to the east and the west of "the central Beacons". This much wider area is also commonly referred to as "the Brecon Beacons".
