Description

A Rockhopper MC trip to Glenmore Lodge. As the day promised light wind but snow showers and poor visibility on the Cairngorm plateau it was hoped Bynack More would be reasonably clear. This was the case. We had decided to descend over A Choinneach and return via Strath Nethy, but with time in hand and clearing conditions on Cairngorm the group split. Three of us headed up the snow slopes south of Ciste Mhearad (crampons required on the upper slopes) direct to the summit of Cairngorm which was snow free. Descent via Ptarmigan to catch the last bus to Glenmore.

Area : The Cairngorms

The Cairngorms are ‘a little piece of the arctic in Scotland’ according to the SMC Munros Guide and the area contains many of the tallest peaks in the East Highlands. Ben Macdui (1309m), Cairn Gorm (1244m) and Braeriach (1296) are probably three of the better known and the whole area is full of steep corries and high plateaux. Access to the mountains is typically from Aviemore or Braemar.
