Description

Final day with the 3 firemen.
We wanted to climb Cairngorm via windy ridge. It was FULL conditions but the team were up for the challenge as the wind was due to reduce during the day. The team navigated their way to the Ptarmigan Restaurant with quite a few location check stops on the way. At the Ptarmigan the weather was right in and it was white out conditions. Unperturbed the team wanted to try for the summit and i was happy with their skill set. They navigated with compass and person positioning all the way to the summit where we met another team in the gloom. The weather was wild but it was a great achievement for them to hit the summit using their own navigational skills.
We talked a lot about "Being bothered" in winter conditions and how being lazy was a cheap way to injure yourself and not have a fun time.

Area : The Cairngorms

The Cairngorms are ‘a little piece of the arctic in Scotland’ according to the SMC Munros Guide and the area contains many of the tallest peaks in the East Highlands. Ben Macdui (1309m), Cairn Gorm (1244m) and Braeriach (1296) are probably three of the better known and the whole area is full of steep corries and high plateaux. Access to the mountains is typically from Aviemore or Braemar.
