Had a group of volunteers who wanted to experience a "Mountain Day", so decided the south-east ridge of Moel Siabod was a good shout. From parking at Bryn Glo crossed the bridge over Cyfyng Falls and followed the PROW up to the disued Tips/Quarry below the north-east ridge. From here we explored the quarry (it is quite beautiful, even when cold!) and then headed up to Llyn y Foel, from here they were briefed on steep ground and we followed the ridge of Daear Ddu to the summit. Some people struggling with the rocky steps, but they all managed it to the summit. Once on the summit the North-East ridge was followed back down until the track we came up was met, from here it was a simple follow back to the car. All finished with a brew in the cafe, they all got a taste for a bigger mountain day and wanted to continue walking in the mountains.

Area : Moelwynion

The Moelwynion (a Welsh plural, sometimes anglicised to Moelwyns) are a group of mountains in central Snowdonia. They extend from the north-east of Porthmadog to Moel Siabod, the highest of the group. The name derives from the names of the two largest mountains in the group, Moelwyn Mawr (great white hill) and Moelwyn Bach (little white hill).
