t’s fair to say we had two great days in Dalkey and we were fortunate with the weather. Lots of sunshine and a bit of wind on Saturday and on Sunday the showers held off …mostly.
There was lots of early confidence with anchors being tested and just about every variation of anchor we could come up with was deployed, there was a bit of experimentation and lots of …'Oh no, that doesn’t look right! Can we improve that?’
Top rope belaying, gear placements, bottom rope anchors, mock leads, lots of varieties of belaying and some good chats about history, ethics and what makes us different as climbers. There were lots of people about on Saturday, we had some great interactions with visitors to the Quarry with people showing lots of curiosity about how to start climbing. And we had one very low flying jet on Saturday…really low flying!
We learned loads, one important lesson was that long nails don’t help climbing…something has gotta go!! The nails or the climbing. Decision, decisions..
Thanks to Aoife and Petra for coming along and keeping me busy and laughing.
