An afternoon (1400-1745) working with Tom Lawfield and Phillip Geng, along with the BMC to help uni club leaders and members prepare for supervising and instructing new recruits. After an instructor dropout I took over his place rather than just shadowing. This first day was mostly an overview/theory.
Separated into three groups with a rotation, I took each group through warm up/downs, crag selection and safety, Managing the group before during and after climbing/abseiling, bad weather options, how to cope with cold/wetter weather should they still want to climb on and a variety of other things as I opened up to questions and queries.
With some extra time I was able to take each group to the edge of the crag and go through the various alternative ways to use pieces of protection.
Our second full day tomorrow will be more practical.
