Description

Our first Mountain Training Rock Skills Intermediate course.
Four participants.
Course report uploaded.
This is a fantastic location for this course. However one participant did admit it had been years since he last climbed and I did make a note of this from reviewing his DLOG prior to the course. As a result he struggled with the climbs.
The rest of the group climbed well and adapted well to the course programme. It's a very hands on course with lots of different learning activities.
Syllabus:
- Background and Planning, access, land ownership, guidebooks, apps, websites.
- Climbing Skills, efficient movement, base of support, point of suspension, centre of gravity, efficient rest positions.
- Equipment, understanding rope types, carabiner types, slings and lanyards, prussiks, rope protectors, passive vs active traditional protection, quickdraws.
- Technical Skills, knots, anchors, rigging, equalisation of masterpoints, lead Belaying, placing traditional gear and retrieval/seconding, extending placements, holding lead falls, personal abseiling.
- Environmental knowledge, SSSI sites, flora and fauna, respect the rock, leave no trace
