We left camp 2 early, with a view to heading upto Camp 3 via a relatively short route. We headed uphill from our camp and took the valley leading to Stenton lake when we started encountering obstacles. The valley became narrower and narrower and heavy water flow and rock falls had caused much pooling and mini-falls. We managed to negotiate these for approx 500m, but add they because more difficult and frequent we decided for reasons of safety to alter the route. We heading up a steep, wooded embankment out for the valley and found an old trekking path that guided us out of the deep valley and eventually to Stenton lake. The steep sides of the valley interfered with the GPS (see track) and added apron 10km to the route
