Description

Out with H, who was keen to look at leading a mountain day and dip a toe in a Cuillin type terrain. They selected the Beinn Dearg round. We planned a route with advice from my previous experience before heading in. Initially it was quite tough going due to boggy terrain but we soon got established on contours and compass work to aid for our goal using some handrailing. H was not happy as we ascended and the loss of the vague path lead to the arduous decision to mainline up 150-200m of scree. Oddly this 'mini glamaig' fired them up whilst I was a little nervous given the angle and the evidence of recent scree trickles. Once back on the flat of the ridge paced picked up substantially and we bang through the three summits and headed down. Returning was a challenge as the weather came on the OS stated path was nowhere to be found. A long good day with lots of learning!
