Simon Hall – Bluebird! Climbing Day.
A stunning day. Walking up from Glen Feshie we hit the snowline above 750m. Once on the plateau we took in the summit of Carn Ban Mor before heading to Fuaran Diotach to look out over A’ Phocaid and have lunch. Unfortunately the winter routes we hoped to see in nick were stripped bare, but we spotted some potential lines in the SW corner of Coire Odhar.
Having headed over we descended one grade I route, took in another Grade I and did a couple of Grade III variation finishes. All new routes, (Stalkers’ Gully, Midlanders Gully, Parwich Finish and Leek Finish).
Then we wandered back over the shoulder of Carn Ban Mor once again before dropping back to the car.
Area :
The Cairngorms
The Cairngorms are ‘a little piece of the arctic in Scotland’ according to the SMC Munros Guide and the area contains many of the tallest peaks in the East Highlands. Ben Macdui (1309m), Cairn Gorm (1244m) and Braeriach (1296) are probably three of the better known and the whole area is full of steep corries and high plateaux. Access to the mountains is typically from Aviemore or Braemar.
