Description

Ascent of Glamara, from Rosthwaite, with a DofE Gold Qualification expedition of four, leaving behind reasonable weather at the valley floor to climb into (deteriorating with time) driving rain and strong winds at the top. The group, faced with a short but challenging scramble, attempted to work their way behind the rocky bluff, but the broken rock-grass scramble remained a challenge in the conditions and they turned back only several tens of metres from the summit. The group descended to Seatoller and climbed Tongue Gill to Dalehead Tarn for a wild-camp and left no trace.

Area : Western Fells

The Western Fells form the southern wall of the Buttermere valley and the northern fence of Wasdale. Between the two lies Ennerdale so that in effect the group is the shape of a single horseshoe, each branch about 10 miles in length. At the head of Ennerdale stands Great Gable. The southern arc of the group travels due west from Great Gable, the main ridge consisting of Kirk Fell, Pillar, Scoat Fell, Haycock and Caw Fell.
