Description

Final day of winter mountain foundation course. Heavy rain and significantly higher temperatures overnight had melted most of the snow below about 900m. We ascended from Altnafeadh along the Old military road up the `Devil`s staircase` and then contoured around to a remaining bank of snow at about 700m in a small bowl. The team then constructed a small emergency snow shelter before ascending further to a larger patch of snow that enabled us to practice fall arrest techniques. Time preculded any summit ascents.

Area : Glencoe North (Loch Leven To Rannoch Station)

This area covers the northern side of Glen Coe and the mountains north of Rannoch Moor. Notable features include the Pap of Glencoe, the Aonach Eagach ridge (home to a few kilometres of horizontal scrambling) and the remote peak of Stob na Cruiache which is generally accessed from the train station to the east. Includes all major peaks above 600m.
