Winter skills journey day with a group of 6, working on the environmental awareness and technical movement skills required for safe travel in winter. This included input on understanding and interpreting weather, snowpack and terrain, selecting safe routes, using winter boots, axes and crampons to provide security on sloping terrain. The day took in a visit to the summit of the Cobbler, and an opportunity to `thread the needle` on the summit block.
Area :
Loch Fyne to Loch Long (Beinn an Lochain)
South of the A83 as far as Dunoon and sandwiched in between Loch Fyne and Loch Long are a number of peaks, none of which qualify for Munro status. The southern half of the Arrochar Alps includes Beinn an Lochain, which at 901m was wrongly included in Sir Hugh Munro’s original list of 3000ft peaks in Scotland. The mountains list contains all peaks above 600m.
