A trek with an objective of walking into the wild cwm, Cirque des Fonts, where the only access is on foot. Start at the hamlet of Salvagny. Climb up to Les Praz de Salvagny and then follow the forest track which climbs the lower slopes of la Grande Joux. At the Croix des Sprits there are good views across to Cascade de Rouget which was in full force. The route steadily climbs up past the Barns at La Celiere across small streams until the spot height at 1248m. At this point there were old slips from the steepening slopes above the trail. There was very little snow on these south facing slopes and so presented little worry regarding further slides. However, what was worrying large lumps of water ice littering the trail. It was clear that these had fallen from the crags since the older slides and covered a recent ski track! A quick check of the map showed crags a considerable part of the rest of the route all on southerly aspects. With the temps well above freezing and the prospect of more ice falls I decided to call it at that point and we made our way back to Salvagny with a short detour to explore the Alpage at Le Pelly de Serai.
