Description

Storm force winds and blizzards. A 3 day callout with RAF MRS to look for a missing family in the cairngorms. Dropped of by helicopter on first day at head of loch avon. Very risky flight. Climbed on to plateau to then spend most of the day on our belly being smashed by the 120mph winds. Horrible days searching. Next day searched all bothies and known shelter areas. On 3 day worked round corries. Casualties found dead by cairngorm team searching other area. hard search and horrible result.

Area : The Cairngorms

The Cairngorms are ‘a little piece of the arctic in Scotland’ according to the SMC Munros Guide and the area contains many of the tallest peaks in the East Highlands. Ben Macdui (1309m), Cairn Gorm (1244m) and Braeriach (1296) are probably three of the better known and the whole area is full of steep corries and high plateaux. Access to the mountains is typically from Aviemore or Braemar.
