Description

Climbing with Neil Colquhuon. Had a bit of a late start as Neil had forgot crampons. Finally got going around 09:30, not a particularly fast walk in then abbed down a line in the centre of Central Buttress. No visibility and no idea where we starting up. Tried a direct line up that I think was between Morwind and Turf Walk and would probably go at about V, 6? Got pretty high up on the line but rippy conditions made progress slow going. Got to 2 options of a right facing and left facing overhanging corners after which the ground looked to get easier. Ended up abseiling off and ascending Easy Gully to get out of the corrie. Missed the Gondola : (

Area : Aonach Mor and Aonach Beag (winter)

These two mountains to the north of Ben Nevis provide contrasting winter climbing venues. The east and west faces of Aonach Mor are easily accessible from the gondola and the east face especially provides many short, interesting and relatively non-serious climbs. Beware of avalanche conditions however. The cliffs of Aonach Beag however, are much more remote and much less frequented, but when in condition the ice climbs on its north face are highly sought-after.
