Supervising / leading group of Gold DofE students (two groups of 4)
Camped east of Tryfan in neighbouring Cwm at Gof Isaf campsite.
IN morning headed south up the cwm , topped out just east of the Glyders to find the miners track and head on South with the aim of moving through the valley toward Beddgelert.
Weather was worst I`ve seen for a very long time. Navigation (micronav) tested strongly on the top of the ridge. Safety was a big concern and my two groups needed closely managing I feel.
Main learning point here was that maybe I should have called off the walk or kept it to lower climbs. the aim of the day was to get used to ascent carrying expedition-weight bags, and this could have been achieved in a safer environment. Great test of the teams potential, kit was tested to the limit and far past it which is setting them up better for their international expedition this year.
Forward planning at the end of the walk kept the teams from getting any worse as they were on the verge of mild hypothermia due to their equipment choice - I think this had to be seen and felt for them to see how their choices affect their day.

Glyderau
The Glyderau (a Welsh plural form, also known in English as the Glyders) are a mountain group in Snowdonia, North Wales. The name derives from the highest peaks in the range, Glyder Fawr and Glyder Fach. According to Sir Ifor Williams, the word "Glyder" derives from the Welsh word "Cludair", meaning a heap of stones.
