Jamie is a member of the Mountain Training Association. He holds a BA (Hons) Degree in Outdoor Adventure Education and is now working towards a MRes Degree in Outdoor Learning. Jamie trades as Climb Devon working as a Mountain Leader, Rock Climbing Development Instructor and Development Coach.

I first met Jamie through the Outdoor Adventure Honours Degree run at the University of St. Mark and St. John, Plymouth. I was acting as an outside Provider of CWA Training for the university. Jamie proved to be an able student of climbing and walking/mountaineering activities and of his own account organised taking part in further CWA, WGL and MLA Awards courses. Therefore in the last two years I have seen Jamie on a number of MTE training and assessment courses that I have organised. I have also seen him at work at the Dart Rock Climbing Centre on a number of occasions when I have been running other courses there. Jamie impresses me as he has worked hard to develop his own teaching, climbing and walking skills and readily takes up any opportunity that comes along. These activities have clearly become part of his pesonal recreation as well as the area he studies and works in. He is a very competent leader in climbing and walking activities, and I have been impressed when I have been able to observe him teaching and coaching, whether groups of age 18+ university students or younger clients at the climbing wall. I believe he has the ability to reach MIA/MIC standard in the future. Dr. Andy Holborn MTE Provider 835

I worked with Jamie on his WGL training course and more recently have been connected with Jamie in his role as Climbing Wall Manager at Dart Rock. Throughout this time, Jamie has consistently demonstrated a calmly competent and enthusiastic approach to his work whether that be on the hill or at the climbing wall. It was on his WGL training course, in particular that his passion for the upland environment shone through. He demonstrated very competent navigation and leadership skills together with a desire to learn, and it is unsurprising to see that he has since successfully completed a number of Mountain Training awards. I would anticipate that these are the start of further awards in the future and I have no hesitation in endorsing Jamie's skills and supporting his future progression through the Mountain Training awards. Jamie is an outdoor enthusiast - and loves being with folk on the hill or crag, as well as training indoors on the wall or in the gym. I had the pleasure of tutoring Jamie on his BA(Hons) Outdoor Adventure Education degree here in Plymouth [see www.marjon.ac.uk]. He is deep thinking, analytical and caring - his inter-personal skills ensure that all whom he meets will have an excellent experience. To put it unacademically - TOP BLOKE!

As part of my CWA I shadowed Jamie for the majority of my consolidation. Jamie always shows good practice and safety, and making sure his clients are suitably safe at all times. Jamie's coaching is also good showing smooth demos and precise explanations. Additionally Jamie is a good mentor for CWA (or SPA) trainee's because Jamie sits down and explains his plans, and then uses the trainee to his advantage while coaching giving the trainee's valuable experiences.

I've walked with Jamie as part of South Devon Mountaineering Club trips. Jamie is an enthusiastic athlete and seems to be into all things outdoor. Jamie has kindly offered his time to help and support myself with expanding my knowledge and skills towards achieving 'Single Pitch Award'. He works a vast amount of hours but will always make time to answer any questions I have, provide myself with resources towards qualicaitions, opportunities to work alongside himself to benefit further training. Jamie has given a range of advice, for my own benefit in relation to career pathways. He has kindly demonstrated: set ups, how to look after the environment indoors and outdoors, safety checks, career advice, group management and many other areas covered. I look forward to achieving my award as Jamie is an individual to rely on and trust, as I know he has a passion in helping others achieve in the outdoor industry, creating a fun, safe environment to work in. With his enthusiasm to grow with knowledge and experience, Jamie will go a long way in the industry and I recommend him to any field he chooses to pursue.

Jamie is one of the most experienced and professional instructors that I have had the pleasure of working with and for. His list of outdoor related qualifications alone is impressive, and when coupled with his young age, the list becomes quite extraordinary. Jamie is a wealth of knowledge for all things climbing and mountaineering related. Already respected in his field, I have no doubt that in years to come Jamie will be a leading figure in the industry. I unreservedly endorse his climbing, hill walking and mountaineering instruction and coaching ability.

I first made contact with Jamie in October 2018, when myself and Emily Perkins, a fellow CWI trainee attended Dartrock to undertake shadowing at the centre so we could demonstrate experience outside of our normal catchment area of Bristol. I feel that we benefited from our interaction with Jamie and time at Dartrock for the following reasons: 1) He was very supportive, both via email and on the day of our approach to gain shadowing experience on a wide range of walls, than just those in Bristol. 2) He allowed us to get involved in the sessions right from the start and through out the day, which covered session from new junior climbers to competition climbers, which is something we had not experienced before. 3) During the sessions themselves, he spent time talking to me about the difference between instructing and coaching and the consequent impact on the climber. It was good to put this into practice for myself on the day and see the difference, which then modified how I approached my instructing as a trainee CWI. 4) Jamie also shared various articles about belaying and the implications on climbing and incidents that occur as a consequence. This in turn was very useful, as I used some of the articles on my assessment topic about accidents in climbing. 5) Finally Jamie also talked to us about how to use the MT system to our benefit to demonstrate our capabilities to potential assessors who would look at our DLOGs, for example using this reference facility. Based on my experience of interacting with Jamie, as documented above, I think he has demonstrated the skills that I would have expected of an MIA in supporting / guiding me through my MT qualifications.

I have known Jamie since May 2017 as a colleague, coach and friend. Jamie has assisted with the in-house training for myself and many other instructors at Dartrock. He has a holistic approach to training and adapts his approach to the individual. Whilst I was working for dartrock, Jamie was consistently the go to person for climbing and instructing related questions, and troubleshooting. This was due to his experience, depth of knowledge and calm, thoughtful approach. I have seen Jamie deliver a variety of different outdoor climbing sessions, from young children taking their first steps on real rock, to guiding established climbers up single pitch climbs. He has a keen eye for detail, safety and best practice. He engages clients and encourages questions, and has the technical knowledge to give them considered and in depth answers that are appropriate to their knowledge base. In terms of personal climbing, Jamie had guided myself and his partner up multi pitch climbs and we have regularly gone cragging together, climbing up to HVS. He shows the same attention to safety in his personal practice as he does professionally. We have had many an in depth discussion on new industry standards, best practice, new equipment, coaching techniques, head game for leading trad, among many other subjects. He is very passionate about climbing and mountaineering and seems to very much enjoy introducing people to the sports that he loves, and facilitating growth and development in those who are already hooked.
