Geology - mountain building 04/01/2017

I started out hill walking in 2010, although my Grandfather used to take me walking in Wales when I was young. Getting back to the hills was a way for me to improve my fitness and to get outdoors. Since then I have lost over 4 stone in weight and kicked the habit of smoking. I am now a qualified Personal Trainer and Mountain Leader (Summer) and love helping others achieve their own health and fitness goals. Snowdonia is my favourite place for walking at anytime of the year, although I do visit the Peak District and Lake District quite regularly. Scotland is a place I would like to visit more and experience more winter mountaineering. I have recently started indoor climbing and would like to take that outdoors.

I qualified as an ML in May 2016 and have to say that the assessment was a fantastic experience. It was very intense but such a great week of more learnings and being with a great bunch of people. This award means that I can now combine it with my PT level 3 qualification and introduce people to the mountains and improve their fitness. Early 2017 I am taking a level 4 PT qualification in Fitness for People with Disabilities, which will mean that I can provide outdoor activities to this population also.

I love to have fun, experience and learn new things and encourage others to do the same.

I now run Challenge Fit UK providing: Challenge Fitness Training / Nutrition Coaching / Navigation Courses / Mountain Awareness Days / Micro Adventures / Charity Challenges

Richard is passionate about improving your health and fitness through outdoor activities, bodyweight training and natural whole food nutrition. He enjoys sharing his knowledge and learning more from his own reading and the experience and knowledge of others. He has competed in numerous triathlons since 2011, ran on and off road marathons and completed ultra running and Ironman events. Long days in the hills and endurance events are what he excels at most. His love of triathlon led him to set up Skegness Triathlon Club, which he is a coach and Vice Chairman of. The club is now in it's 4th year and provides triathlon coaching and support to its members whilst encouraging the local community to take up the sport to improve their health and fitness.
Richard is in the process of moving to North Wales and is expecting to be situated there full time from August 2017.

1100 miles from Northern to Southern India on a Royal Enfield Bullet raising £6500 for charity.
London Marathon / Blackpool to Skegness Cycle Ride over 2 days / 2 x Edinburgh Marathon / National 3 Peaks Challenge.
Numerous triathlons from sprint to olympic distance.
UK Ironman 70.3 at Wimbleball, Exmoor (reputedly the toughest half Ironman in the world!).
Ironman Barcelona 2016
Yorkshire 3 Peaks including wild camp / Canalthon Ultra 50km.
Assisting on the Mountain Safety Team for the Spine Race.
Seabank Trail Marathon
270 mile hike from Caernarfon to Skegness, in 8 days, raising £1500 for a local charity / Skegness to Scarborough Solo Cycle Ride.
Attempted Ultra Trails 110km completing 100km (failing to meet the final cut-off) / Sell-am-Zee, Austria, Ironman 70.3.
