Dr Isla Madeleine Wormald. BSc MBChB (Leeds) DiMM (UIAA / IKAR / ISMM). I was born and raised in Yorkshire and have reportedly been summiting peaks since I was in utero but not without protest in my teenage years! However, I subsequently discovered a passion for outdoor pursuits. As an undergraduate I developed an interest in wilderness medicine and spent my medical elective at the Institute of Training and Research in Mountain Medicine at Chamonix Hospital, France, supervised by Dr Emmanuel Cauchy. Having finished my Foundation Training in West Yorkshire in August 2011, I took two years out of training to pursue my interest in wilderness medicine prior to beginning specialty training in Emergency Medicine in South Yorkshire in August 2013.
My expedition medicine and leadership experience include: science leader and doctor for the British Schools Exploring Society (BSES) 2011 expedition to Svalbard, Chief Medical Officer for the Leeds Metropolitan University Himalayan Research Expedition 2011, Senior Medical Officer for the BSES Arctic Odyssey 2012 Expedition to Norway and Challenge Medic for three Action Challenge UK Kilimanjaro Summit Challenges.
I was a Challenge Medic for the Action Challenge UK “London 2 Paris 24” 2013 and am a volunteer doctor for the GB Junior Lead Climbing and Bouldering Teams. I have previously been a volunteer doctor for the Upper Wharfedale Fell Rescue Association.
I thrive on adventure! I am available for leading groups wishing to hike in mountainous terrain in the UK, for teaching or as an expedition doctor.
