I started hill walking when I joined scouts, aged 11 and in 1974 I lead my first team on the Dartmoor Ten Tors event. I completed 5 of those and a 10 day expedition in Snowdonia visiting all the 3000 ft peaks...by then I was hooked. For many years I contented myself with organising scout day walks and expeditions but in the 90's I realised that ML qualifications were the way forward. Since completing my ML(S)I have completed ML(W) training and numerous other related courses. I have been involved in Mountain Rescue for 30 years and leading overseas personal development expeditions for 13 years visiting Africa, India, Central America and South East Asia. I am a founder member of Dartmoors "Moorland Guides" organisation and run my own business: Hillwise(www.hillwise.co.uk). I am still involved in Scouting and Mountain Rescue and am now a provider of the Hill and Mountain skills courses, as well as staffing WGL courses working with local MIA's
It all seems a long way from that first walk across the moors with my patrol of scouts, but it's been a great adventure!
