I have worked as a freelance Outdoor Instructor since 2013, following extensive rock climbing, hill walking, mountaineering, skiing and trekking experience, gained in the UK, Scandinavia, Europe, Morocco, US (High Sierras and Hawaii) & South Africa. I also work direct with clients.
LIFE EXPERIENCE, (work & play highlight):
1967 - 1970 Living above the Arctic Circle in North Sweden as a kid
1980 & 1985 - Part of the UK Peaks Stoney Middleton new route woodshed scene
1980 – 2000 - Extensive rock climbing (both trad & sport in the UK, US, Spain, France)
2001 - Nordic skiing in the Rondane National Park (Norway)
2006 - Climbing on Table Mountain (South Africa)
2013 - Appointed BMC SW Area Secretary.
2013 - gained my CWA, SPA, CWAA, Level 1 BCU Coach, First Aid & ML Awards within 4 months
2013 – Winter mountaineering In Torridon Scotland
2013 - Started my IML Award
2013 – A month alpine trekking in Switzerland
2013 - Gained D of E Assessor award & turned freelance, working for outdoor providers in the UK
2014 - Completed my MIA Training
2014 - A 3 months trip to Australia & New Zealand (climbing & trekking)
2013 to 2016 - Extensive snow shoe trips in the Alps prepping for my IML award
2015 - Helping my wife Helen gain her ML (she has now signed up for her SPA and may do her IML!
2016 - Bought a VW van to continue to enjoy my mountain trips and support my work
2017 - Advised and set up Gold D of E business programs running abroad
2018 - Appointed BMC South West Clubs Rep
Ambitions - Gain more experience by leading expeditions as a qualified IML. Continue to help other enjoy the mountains and gain massively from outdoor activities & sports in teaching and leading others. Prep for my MIA Assessment. Continue with my Climbing in the UK & Abroad. Sign on for my ML Winter Award training.
