Great leadership is what makes outdoor instructors and leaders excellent. It inspires, enables and develops others. This course is aimed at outdoor leaders who wish to understand the importance of effective leadership in an outdoor context. The workshop examines the Transformational Leadership model and its relevance to effective outdoor leadership practices. It will explore the practical application of effective leadership behaviours, using real examples in the outdoor environment. All attendees will learn how effective leadership behaviours can positively impact followers and will have the opportunity to explore and experience effective leadership behaviours in a practical group setting. Each attendee will create a personal action plan by identifying 3 leadership behaviours to target and improve on. The course is supported by Mountain Training with funding from Sport England and carries 1 CPD point. There are a maximum of 20 places on each course and runs 9am to 5pm. Cost: £60 for non association members £40 association members (MTA, BAIML, AMI, BMG) Lunch is not included so please bring a packed lunch (or purchase from nearby shops). TRAINER: Dr Samantha McElligott Samantha is a leadership consultant and has been an active outdoor practitioner and expedition leader for over 15 years. She specialises in research-led leadership development, particularly in the outdoor context. Her research interests include quantitative examination of the impact of leadership; transformational leadership development; and the effects of outdoor learning on outcomes such as self-esteem and teamwork. Samantha lives in Snowdonia, loves adventures at home or overseas, and enjoying days out on the hills with tea and cake to follow.
