About

Saturday Full Day - 09.00am - 17.00pm Workshop: Psychological and Mental Health on Expedition Equipment: An open mind and willingness to share from personal experiences. Description: One of the biggest challenges we face as an IML working on expeditions or multi-day trips is the management of mental health and psychological issues. This workshop will offer the opportunity to learn and develop practical and effective psychological first aid strategies to support clients with psychological problems. Through a series of scenarios and small group discussion sharing from personal experiences we will gain confidence in identifying those at risk and those in need of further support, dispelling some of the common myths surrounding psychiatric illness. It will also provide tips for looking after your own wellbeing in the aftermath of a disaster or stressful situation. Workshop Leader: Naomi Dodds Naomi’s enthusiasm for expedition medicine ignited her passion to study medicine as a psychology graduate, and she is now working as an anaesthetic trainee in Scotland. She is an active IML and has travelled as an expedition leader to many captivating places across the globe, from the Himalayan mountains to the jungles of South America and Alaska's remote wilderness. She is a member of the Aberdeen Mountain Rescue Team and enjoys sharing her love for mountain medicine, teaching on various wilderness medicine and mountaineering courses.
