About

Come and discover all about the extraordinary moorland landscape and blanket bogs that form the top of much of our English uplands and how recovery is being stimulated by the extraordinary MoorLIFE 2020 project. Time Saturday 21st October 10 am start (expected to be done by 4 pm) Place Meet Birchen Clough Bridge car park on the A57 (O.S. grid ref. SK 109 914 Lat. Long 53.41975,-1.83705) Joining instructions Please arrive by 9.50 am. Leader Co-ordinated by MTA member Peter Judd (email: peak10roam-mta@yahoo.co.uk), delivered by Moors For The Future Partnership’s Community Science Team. Number of delegates 12 Description Moors For The Future Partnership staff will take us on a journey of discovery up onto the Kinder Scout Plateau visiting a number of their work sites in order to learn more about this fascinating landscape. We will see just how damaged parts of this landscape have become, hear how that damage occurred and the various stages of work that are already taking place to restore this, one of the most important sites of blanket bog in Europe, back to full health. Along the way we will hear about the ecology, flora and fauna of this landscape plus find out how we can enhance our clients’ experience of this extraordinary environment by introducing them to some of the monitoring and survey activities run as part of MFTFP’s Community Science programme. This will be a day-long walk and talk activity, so come equipped for a full day out on the hill, including bringing sufficient food, drink and clothing appropriate for the weather on the day (gaiters recommended). We will finish with a debrief in the pub. This activity is offered at no-cost to participants by the MTA. However, we plan to use a few of our cars to transfer everyone down to the Snake Pass Inn, in order to start our walk. The Inn now charge £5 per car when vehicles are left in their car park (hence our decision not to have everyone park there in the first place). We hope everyone will agree to share this charge between us all on the day. We may use the Inn for a debrief at the end too. For further information Please contact Peter Judd via peak10roam-mta@yahoo.co.uk
