A day or weekend for full AMI members to get together and practise skills prior to the upcoming winter season. This is being organised by Nick Cannon Jones who since gaining his MIC in 2009 has regularly worked on a variety of winter courses both in the Lake District and Scotland. Saturday 9th - A winter mountaineering day offering the chance to get out and stretch your legs in big boots. A refresher on winter navigation, avalanche awareness using the Be Avalanche Aware model, axe and crampon skills and ropework. Sunday 10th - A winter climbing day, particularly looking at the transition from short-roping to parallel ropework and other teaching strategies in winter. Hopefully we will have some winter conditions for this but it will still be possible to practise all the techniques if not. The days will probably be on Helvellyn but final details will be confirmed nearer the time. The cost will be £45/day or £75 for both days if booked before the end of November.
