The Climbing For All Course combines disability awareness & education with practical techniques to support climbers with disabilities or impairments.
It provides an introduction to working with this particular client-group and is suitable for anyone who has an interest in climbing with clients with disabilities or impairments.
It also provides the opportunity to explore the use of adaptive techniques that fall beyond the remit of the Mountain Training Awards with a Technical Advisor for inclusive climbing activities.
The Course includes...
• Models of disability
• Types of disability and impairment
• Risk assessing the climbing wall environment
• Adapting the environment and your practice when working with clients with additional needs
• Side-supporting a climber
• Vertical hoist systems
• Abseiling with chair users
• Coaching climbing movement
The Climbing For All Course has been developed by the IOL Adventure For All SIG with support from the BMC and Association of Mountaineering Instructors.
