Would you like to improve your knowledge of geology and geomorphology in the context of being an outdoor leader? This workshop in The Pentland Hills offers a good opportunity to visit a number of localities that exemplify how geology, glacial erosion and cultural use all combine to create the upland landscape.
Using the Pentlands Rock! leaflet as a guide, the workshop will use a number of localities between Threipmuir car park and The Howe area to introduce these ideas.
During the workshop, the aims are:
- To provide hands-on learning in the field about rocks and landforms
- Consider how to incorporate geology, geomorphology and landscape into your walks and leadership skills
- Introduce participants to a range of resources for further exploration of geology and physical geography in their 'Hills of Home'
Dr Al McGowan is a HML and a Chartered Geologist. He has run a number of workshops on geological topics for MTA and routinely works in the Pentlands on DofE expeditions.
