WORKSHOP CONTENT & LEARNING OUTCOMES
Join the Central & N London Region for this peer led half day workshop exploring the Goring Gap, where the Chiltern Hills meet the river Thames on the boarders of Oxfordshire and Berkshire.
Workshop outcomes: enhanced knowledge and understanding of the lowland environment, including aspects of geology, landscape, flora, and fauna.
We will explore different habitats, including chalk grassland and river meadows, and may discover some rare and uncommon flora such as the Pasque Flower, Orchids, Milkwort, Cowslips, Snake's Head Fritillaries, and more. There will also be the opportunity discuss other aspects of the LL syllabus.
This workshop is aimed at Lowland Leaders (qualified or trainees) but will also be of interest to all walk leaders.
Meet at Goring & Streatley station Goring (GWR), Gatehampton Road, Goring, RG8 0EP.
Parking (pay) at Goring Station or Wheel Orchard, or roadside parking (free) in village.
Note: Start time will meet GWR trains from London, Reading, Oxford, Swindon.
EQUIPMENT/KIT REQUIRED
Usual outdoor kit to keep you warm and dry in the lowland environment (the Pasque Flowers like to grow on exposed hillsides).
Binoculars may be useful.
OS Map Explorer 171 Chiltern Hills West (we will bring a few spares) and compass.
CATERING/FOOD
Bring your own walk snacks and drink.
WORKSHOP PROVIDER CREDENTIALS
This workshop is facilitated by regional volunteer, Philippa Sanders (Pipsticks Walks). She lives locally and has good knowledge of the geology, landscape, flora and fauna of the region.
