Award Description
This qualification trains and assesses candidates in the skills required to lead hillwalking groups in summer conditions on mountainous routes not requiring the planned use of a rope. Established in 1964, this was the first qualification created by Mountain Training.

Our courses are delivered from our Basecamp, right on the high street in Llanberis, Eryri | Snowdonia and include free tea and coffee and cake to finish the course. Our ethos is to run fun, friendly and relaxed courses to develop your confidence and skills.
In addition to our experience of delivering the Mountain Leader award scheme, we are active and current Mountain Leaders, from leading Duke of Edinburgh expeditions, charity challenge events, taking young people for their first hill walks, right through to top level navigation coaching. The Mountain Leader is an awesome award that can open a wealth of opportunities to kick-start your outdoor career.
Our Basecamp provides a quiet, private space for Mountain Independence where we run morning meetings and evening lectures; equipped with facilities for weather briefings, presentations and resources. Llanberis itself is a great base, with lots of options locally to access the hills, plenty of accomodation options, and good transport links.
With great tea and coffee included in the package; finishing the course with a slice of cake is just the icing on the, well....
