Award Description
This qualification trains and assesses candidates in the skills required to supervise climbers on purpose built artificial climbing walls and boulders. The scheme does not include the skills and techniques required to teach lead climbing.
The Climbing Wall Instructor Training Course is the designed for people who would like to deliver and supervise climbing on artificial climbing structures like climbing walls, climbing towers etc.
The 2 days training course will cover all that you need to know to safely teach and supervise climbing and is suitable for those with personal climbing experience that are looking to work and supervise others. This might be teachers, climbing wall staff and or climbing club volunteers.

Climbing Wall Instructor training lasts for two days and will cover:
Technical competence (including equipment, belaying, personal skills and background knowledge)
Management and decision making (including planning, managing participants, decision making, knowledge and demonstration of techniques and managing other staff)
Teaching and learning skills
The climbing environment (including access, etiquette and ethics)
After completing a training course, use the feedback from your course director and the skills checklist to identify syllabus areas you need to practise. You can then work on these and compile your digital log book with the required work before booking your 1 day climbing wall instructor assessment.
