Award Description

This qualification trains and assesses candidates in the skills required to supervise climbers on purpose built artificial climbing walls and boulders. The scheme does not include the skills and techniques required to teach lead climbing.

About

The Climbing Wall Instructor qualification enables experienced climbers to instruct climbing on purpose built artificial climbing walls and boulders. It is ideal for people who work at climbing walls or at venues with permanent or mobile climbing towers. This course is for assessment only, where candidates have already completed the Climbing Wall Instructor Training or been granted exemption by Mountain Training.

Venture Elements are a training provider for Mountain Training Leadership Qualifications (Professional Instructor Training Courses). All courses will be delivered by a qualified Mountaineering and Climbing Instructor which is the highest qualification in this field.

Location - All advertised courses are delivered in Sheffield (usually at Awesome Walls or The Foundry), but please contact us if you wish to have a bespoke course delivered at a venue of your choice.

What is included - Our price includes instruction and any equipment that you may need to borrow for the assessment (including helmets, harnesses, climbing shoes, ropes and metalware). 

We DO NOT Provide:

• food and accommodation
• entry fee into the climbing walls

Delivery – This is a 1 day course that is predominantly practical in nature, using only a few small theory activities to evidence syllabus areas.

CWI Course Resources

Pre-requisites –

You must:

• Be 18 years old and have completed a training course (or an approved exemption by Mountain Training)
• Have 30 climbing wall visits and 40 recorded lead climbs (minimum) at 2 different walls
• Be climbing confidently at grade Fr 4
• Have assisted in the supervision of 15 instructed sessions
• Have 5 sessions that with reflective comments in DLOG
• Have a valid 1^st Aid Certificate that is assessed (minimum 8 hours)
