About

Two Day Rock Skills Intermediate Course

This two day course builds on your previous experience as a climber and introduces you to more advanced climbing skills. Over the two days you will gain confidence in your belaying, learn how to belay a lead climber and how to second route competently, as well as developing your climbing movement skills and learning how to place traditional protection and how to construct safe and appropriate belays. So allow SAAIGOutdoors and the BMC to support you climbing outside at your own pace.

You will also look at the following skills:
- Background and planning
- Warming up and injury avoidance
- Increasing your climbing movement and technique repertoire
- Building anchors
- Selecting appropriate runners
- Personal abseiling

Pre-Requisites: -

Completion of a Rock Skills Introduction course.
OR,
- Have logged 10 routes on an indoor wall or at outdoor crags;
- Have logged 10 belays of a fellow climber.
These can be logged via the Mountain Training Association Candidate Management System (CMS).

Fun and exciting rock climbing & rigging course

As you climb more outdoors it’s helpful to understand how to warm up and avoid injury as you develop your movement skills alongside others with a shared interest. Different rock types present different challenges as the hold shapes and friction changes so you’ll learn about the importance of trusting your feet and transferring your weight as you move up the crag.

Visit SAAIGOutdoors Climbing Experiences & Coaching for all our exciting adventures and coaching courses.

Immerse yourself in the activity

Rock climbing is a totally absorbing activity and on a Rock Skills Intermediate course you’ll spend two days surrounded by other developing climbers, getting to grips with all aspects of the activity, from how trad protection works to new knots and rope systems. At SAAIGOutdoors we are full of knowledge and enthusiasm and want to share our passion with you in the hope you’ll continue to develop and love rock climbing just as much as we do.

Learn more advanced skills

Decision making is the cornerstone of safe rock climbing as all the inherent risks can be managed. There’s a lot to think about and the skills learned on a Rock Skills Intermediate course provide a solid foundation on which you can rely as you take more responsibility for placing gear, building anchors and belaying a lead climber.

You'll receive

  • A copy of the BMC's New Rock Climbers booklet
  • A certificate of attendance
  • Lifetime use of Mountain Training's digital logbook (DLOG)
