Our Rock Skills courses are designed to provide structured training opportunities for people who want to learn more and become independent climbers. There are three different levels so that complete beginners and those with more experience can choose the most appropriate starting point.
About
Venture Elements are a training provider for Mountain Training Skills Courses (Personal Development Courses) and Mountain Training Leadership Qualifications (Professional Instructor Training Courses). All courses will be delivered by, a highly qualified and experienced member of our team.
Scheme Details
The main aims of this course are to learn how to safely belay a lead climber, how to second routes competently and how to start building belays to belay from the top of a route. You can expect to do lots of climbing and learn the basics of how to place protection.
Location - All advertised courses are delivered in the Peak District National Park close to Hathersage (Stangae, Burbage, Frogatt etc) but please contact us if you wish to have a bespoke course delivered at a venue of your choice.
What is included - Our price includes instruction, all equipment (including helmets, harnesses, climbing shoes, ropes and metalware), transport from the meeting location to the crag and support upon completion of the course. We DO NOT provide food and accommodation but can make recommendations upon request.
Delivery – This is a 2 day course that is predominantly practical in nature, using only a few small theory based activities to reinforce key learning areas.
The Syllabus – This will focus on the following key areas; Background and Planning, Climbing Skills, Footwear and Equipment, Technical Skills, Environmental Knowledge, Hazards and Emergency Proedures. For further information please download Rock_Skills_Handbook.pdf
Pre-requisites – Completion of a Rock Skills Introduction course is desirable or having climbed and belayed on 10 occasions (indoors or outdoors).
