Award Description
Our Rock Skills courses are designed to provide structured training opportunities for people who want to learn more and become independent climbers. There are three different levels so that complete beginners and those with more experience can choose the most appropriate starting point.
Chockstone Mountaineering is run by Vicky Owen. Vicky is an outdoor professional with extensive experience of leading and training people in the outdoors and specialises in nurturing potential. Her courses are welcoming, engaging and inclusive. Every day out is planned with your needs in mind so that you can achieve your aspirations in a positive environment, and at a pace and challenge level that suits you.
Vicky is based in North Wales and works full time in the mountains. In addition to delivering Hill & Mountain Skills and Rock Skills courses, Chockstone Mountaineering offers a range of bespoke hillwalking, mountaineering and climbing courses which include multipitch climbing, navigation skills, scrambling days, winter skills and much more.

Course Overview:
This course is ideal for: Climbers who are ready to learn to lead trad routes, more experienced climbers who want to refresh their skills and those planning to pursue the Rock Climbing Instructor qualificartion.
Previous experience required: Have experienced of belaying on 20 or more occasions and have seconded a 20 or more rock climbs at VDiff.
Course location: Single pitch (short) crags in North Wales
Course covers: Choosing venues and routes, moving well when leading, how to select, carry and place trad gear, clipping when leading, building anchors, belaying a second and managing risk.
