Award Description
Bouldering Wall Instructors deliver bouldering sessions on artificial bouldering walls. They are able to teach bouldering skills and manage groups safely.
The Mountain Training Bouldering Wall Instructor is a leadership course designed to give climbing instructors the skills to safely and effectively teach rock climbing on artificial bouldering structures (typically indoor bouldering walls).
The day is broken down to look in more detail at:
> personal bouldering skills, through a typical boulder induction
> using the bouldering wall as a teaching facility
> adjusting tasks to account for young children, older climbers and those with disabilities
> Advice for consolidation and assessment preparation
Prowess Coaching is an official provider of these workshops and is highly qualifed and vastly experienced in the field of bouldering. The Bouldering Wall Instructor training course is a one-day event and is a mix of classroom based and practical learning (as practical as possible) so bring your rock shoes and get ready to get on the wall! However don't expect us to be trying super hard. The focus is on safe and effective use of the bouldering wall, with a minimum grade requirement of being able to climb V2/Font 5.
In the event of injury, it may be possible to make reasonable adjustments, although we generally find most people are psyched to get on the wall.
These workshops are stacked with useful information to help you with your clients (or even your own climbing) but are all delivered in a super relaxed, super chilled out environment and are generally very well received. Plus, we are running in the dedicated, purpose designed Prowess Classroom with multiple resources available for you to use.
More information is available on the Mountain Training website
A resource pack including slides, course notes, downloads and links is included as part of the workshop. You'll receive a link and a password to browse at your leisure.
This workshop is run by professional climbing coach, Pete Edwards. Pete has recorded more than 1000 boulder problems at over 130 crags in ten different countries over the past twenty years, up to font 7c+/V10 and with several first ascents up to font 7b/V8. He is Performance Coach trained and holds a Master's Degree in Elite Performance.
