Climbing for All

Delivered in partnership with Adventures Await www.adventuresawait.co.uk Climbing for All is a one day course providing an introduction to instructing disabled people in climbing. The course has now been delivered for over 12 years and was developed by Adventure for All and Mountain Training England. Climbing for All is an Association of Mountaineering Instructors approved course.
This course will also involve working with disabled people during the practical session
The purpose of the course is to provide instructors and coaches increased confidence and skills to enable disabled people to experience and enjoy climbing. The course also provides you with an opportunity to test your instructing and coaching skills in new territories.
Course delivered in two halves Theory/Practical
• Appropriate/Inappropriate Language
• Types of Disabilities
• How do Disabilities Occur
• Models of Disability
• Inclusive/Integrated/Segregated?
The second half covers
• Climbing Environments
• Side Supported Climbing
• Vertical Hoists
• Wheelchair Abseiling
The course can be delivered in a wide variety of environments including commercial walls, school walls, outdoor & adventure venues.
Course provider
Graeme assisted in the development of the course and has been delivering if for over 12 years. Graeme works full time as a disability programme manager for a leisure trust. He was the founder of the GB paraclimbing team and currently volunteers for the IOL Adventure for All Professional Practice Group.
