This workshop is ideal for both trainee MLs and as a CPD opportunity for qualified ones. The objective is to help participants to identify some of the easily recognised & more common plants on our hillsides, and more importantly, to discover a little more about them – perhaps how they were used for food or medicine, or alternatively some lore or stories about them. It is not a formal botany workshop – Latin names will not be used and no prior knowledge is assumed. But for every plant which is mentioned a wee anecdote or interesting fact will be given. Plants are such widespread organisms that many people take them for granted and tend either not to notice them or crush them underfoot en route to the summits. This is a shame because we have a varied flora here in Britain and many of our plants have, in the past, had interesting uses and many also have intriguing stories which can be told about them. For an ML, a basic knowledge of some of these stories can prove an invaluable tool to either give a group an excuse for a breather or to help gather them together. Meet at Braeval Forestry Commission car park – about 2 miles east of Aberfoyle. (Grid Ref - NN541006) for a 10am start and the workshop wil run for approx 3-4 hours. These workshopa are run by Arthur Jones of Trossachstreks and proved very popular last year.
