Night navigation practise opportunity in the Derbyshire Peak District. This peer led night navigation opportunity, organised by MTA member Peter Judd, will allow people to explore navigation strategies and techniques for both night and poor visibility conditions, using points around Abney and Offerton Moors. The event will provide an opportunity to brush up on skills, practise and share ideas. All are welcome but you must book first, bring appropriate kit and your own maps (OS Explorer maps OL1 Dark Peak & OL24 White Peak). Please note: as this event is peer led, so individuals are responsible for themselves and their own welfare during the event. Meet in Abney village, by the public ‘phone box, O.S. grid reference SK 197 798, at 6.15 pm and the evening will run for around 3 hours. Afterwards there may be an opportunity to reconvene elsewhere for a drink and a chat. There are roadside parking opportunities for careful car users, both along the road through Abney village and also to the west of the village on the side of the road in the vicinity of OS grid reference SK 194 794. Please park with great care and consideration on this narrow road. Please be absolutely sure to avoid causing obstruction, irritation or inconvenience to villagers and other road users. Please note: at the time of writing the only road access to Abney village is from the east, by taking the turning off opposite the Plough Inn, near Leadmill Bridge, from the B6001 Hathersage-Grindleford road. To the west of Abney the road is blocked, just beyond Camphill Gliding Field.
