A day workshop looking at the some of the techniques and equipment used in the LCMLA Level two and CIC schemes, and how they may be of use in the MIA/C improvised rescue toolbox The workshop is practical and will include: Rigging - knots cavers use and their applications in crag rigging Equipment – specific items of kit that may prove useful as ‘crossover’ kit for practising MIA/Cs Rescue techniques – practical haul techniques, options for escaping the system and the exotic ‘Spanish Pendulum’…. Ascending ropes The day will encourage climbers to look at the way cavers use ropes and explore how this may enhance their skill set for other applications Based in Stoney Middleton, Phil has caved for over 35 years all over the UK and Europe, and has been involved in instructing groups and individuals since 1987 in a range of outdoor activities. In 2012 he was one of two British cavers to take part in an international expedition to Krubera-Voronja in Abkahzia (currently the deepest cave in the world at -2196m), becoming one of a handful of Britons to reach the bottom since its discovery. He has also discovered new cave in Albania and Picos Europa and has bottomed the legendary Gouffre Berger three times. Phil is passionate about all aspects of caving/climbing and also holds the Mountain Instructors Certificate having climbed around the world, including big walls in America, Denali in Alaska and new ice climbs in Norway.
