Day 2 focuses on techniques for coaching more experienced navigators and also techniques for assessing navigating; looking more closely at how we can isolate candidates strengths/weaknesses in order to give more effective feedback at assessment (and training ) level. This course would be open to anyone who teaches or assesses navigation or would like to learn techniques which will also improve their own navigation.

Ian Loombe is an MIC holder and has been involved in training and assessment of navigation for over 20 years. David Taylor is a SML holder and has also been English Fell Running champion (twice). Both Ian and David have extensive experience of practicing, teaching and assessing navigation. The basis of the training would be breaking down the elements of navigation and then looking at techniques to improve how we assess them. The course would focus more closely on techniques for coaching more experienced navigators and also techniques for assessing navigating; looking more closely at how we can isolate candidates strengths/weaknesses in order to give more effective feedback at assessment (and training ) level.  Day 2 is open to anyone who is involved in training/assessment of the hill/mountain schemes.

Equipment needed: Standard daysack, outdoor clothing, map and compass, pen and paper.
