These full day events, delivered by experienced Mountaing Training England climbing course staff and aim to explore indoor climbing topics potentially appropriate to Rock Climbing Instructor delivery. These events may support existing Single Pitch Award providers and course staff switching over to the new qualification. This is an opportunity for Mountaineering Instructors who are looking to increase their knowledge of the indoor teaching environment. The emphasis of the day will be on collaborative discussion between the attendees to pool collective knowledge and experience.

These events are only for Mountain Training England Single Pitch Award providers and course staff wishing to work on Rock Climbing Instructor courses.
IT WILL BE HELD AT AWESOME WALLS SHEFFIELD AND STARTS AT 10AM

Workshop Outline: |
Proposed workshop programme to include,
• Intro to the scheme, syllabus and additional elements,
• Lead climbing clipping (continental vrs brit style), back clipping, z clipping leg entrapment.
• Lead belaying (active vrs dynamic) clipping zones, decking from 4th demo
• Holding small falls- why, how and where.
• How to descend from sport climbs.
• Bottom roping sport climbs – protecting the bolts/anchors from wear with y hangs.
Lunch
• Risk assessment and management of wall. Intro to problem avoidance. Legalities. Duty of care
• Planning a climbing wall session-flexibility. Responsibilities as an instructor.
• Intro, warm ups, bouldering games, traversing and effective spotting.
• Understanding of ABC’s of movement, climbing holds and how they are used. Demo’s of movement techniques.
• Movement coaching roped and un-roped
• Teaching/coaching process
• Problem avoidance and simple rescues (tie off belay plate/Italian hitch/grigri) Guidance for the CWI will say that rescues should not normally be required without further site specific training. Instructor leaving the ground is last resort. Counter balances are not in the syllabus.
