Intermediate Geology - Saturday Full Day Workshop

Workshop Provider: Paul Gannon

Time: 09.00 - 17.00

Bio: Paul Gannon is a science and technology writer specialising in explaining complex scientific and technical subjects to general audiences. He is author of the Rock Trails series of hillwalkers' guides to the geology and scenery of the main mountain areas of Britain. He is currently completing a book on the geology of the Alps designed for hillwalkers (which also includes an Alpine flower guide written by Jim Langley). He also regularly runs geology workshops in the UK mountain areas designed for mountain leaders and instructors. He lives in Llanberis.

Workshop info: The session will be based in the field and explain current ideas of how geology determines the landscape that can be passed on to clients. The session will look in detail at the famous Mam Tor landslide, from top to toe, and at how the interlayered sedimentary geology explains why the landslide happened and how it is still affecting the landscape. It will also look at the fascinating limestone geology of the area next to the Mam Tor landslide and common features of the limestone landscape.
