Course aims:

This is an intensive course to improve your ski technique, by giving you a good understanding of the 3 'key' movements of a ski turn, together with personal coaching. Ski party leader skills will also be introduced, and it is a good opportunity to get advice on equipment, and safety issues.Presentations on ski technique theory and equipment are part of the course.

For guides and those who have attended the course more than once, the course continues to develop personal ski skills and in turn improve coaching skills. It also a good moment to discuss guiding and equipment issues.

There is no assessment on this course and is an opportunity for the new candidates to meet BMG members in a stress free situation. The skiing level of many clients is so good now, this course is aimed to improve the expertise of the BMG, especially those of us who qualified before the requirement was so high and need to take the rust off our edges.

Instructors:

Alex Languetin, Fabian Pavillard.

The instructors are enthusiats who train and assess ski instructors at the top level as well as runninng similar ski technique courses for the swiss guides association.

Alex has instructed almost every member of the BMG over more than 15 years of running these courses. Fabian is also a talented mountain guide and manages the Leysin Guides Bureau.

Program:

This 3 day course will be based in the Leysin/Les Mosses ski area. Depending on conditions a day at Glacier 3000 Diablerets is possible.

Rendezvous:

Cable Bar, telecabines, Leysin 0845 Monday 14th January. The course aims to finish Wednesday 16th January by 1700.

Equipment:

Please bring a good all round skis (not really fat powder skis). If you are not sure discuss this with your instructor once we meet. It is possible to rent equipment at Hefti Sports opposite the telecabine. Again discuss with your instructor before doing so.

Avalanche transceiver, probe and shovel essential. I have these items for loan if necessary.

Guides/aspirants bring skins and skis with touring bindings which gives more options. They will not be required on day 1. This equipment can be hired if necesary.

For your safety make sure your boots are compatible with your bindings and are correctly set. Please ask if you are not sure and get expert advice.
