Award Description
The Lowland Leader qualification has been designed for people who wish to lead groups on day walks in lowland countryside and woodland in summer conditions. The majority of the UK and Ireland is made up of this type of terrain so you'll never be short of places to go walking.
Lowland Leader Scheme - Pre Requirements
You must be at least 17 years old
You have an interest in leading groups in lowland countryside
Create a Candidate account on Mountain Training’s website
Register for the Lowland Leader scheme (this costs £44 and is extra to our course costs)
Record a minimum of 10 varied walks in Lowland terrain before attending a training course OR have attended a Mountain Training Hill & Mountain Skills course Training
Lowland Leader Training Course
CHMAS offer a 2 day (16 hour) training course, that includes a mix of practical indoor and ooutdoor sessions run in the beatifull Shropshire Countryside. Over the two days we will look at the following topics:
Leadership skills and group management
Walking skills
Planning a walk
Basic map and route finding skills
Equipment
Hazards and emergency procedures
Environmental awareness, conservation, access and land ownership
